From idea to production: embedded systems that work outside the lab
We take embedded products from first idea to the production line, from low-power wearables to Edge AI and robotics. Our electronics and firmware run in power stations, in medical devices, at sea and in a safety product built at more than a million units.
Complex embedded projects rarely fail for just one reason
The biggest challenges in technology development are not always visible at the start. Poor architecture, unclear requirements and difficult technical decisions can become costly problems later.
We help teams spot those risks early and make decisions that hold up, across hardware, firmware, mechanics, connectivity and production. The result is a product that works in the field, not just on the bench.
We’ve seen it from both sides: building products from a blank page, and being called in when a device already in the field starts to misbehave. Whether you’re starting from a sketch or fixing something that has already shipped, the first step is the same, an honest look at where the real risks are, before they turn into delays.
See how we workWhere we usually come in
Most projects don’t come to us for more code. They come when hardware, firmware, test and certification stop fitting together, and someone needs to find out why.
An idea that needs to become a product
Requirements, architecture and a first working prototype, with a clear route to manufacture.
Product development
A model that has to run on the device
Vision and sensor models sized and quantised for NPU microcontrollers and embedded Linux.
Edge AI
A fault you can’t reproduce
Field resets, dropped connections or failures at −25 °C, traced to the root cause and fixed.
Debugging & troubleshooting
Battery life that misses the target
Energy measured across radio, sensors and sleep states, then cut in hardware and firmware together.
Low-power design
A prototype that isn’t ready for the factory
Test jigs, production software, provisioning and calibration for volume builds.
Production readiness
A standard in the way
CE, FCC, IEC 61508 or ATEX, designed in from the first schematic.
Functional safety & ATEX

All servicesAI and autonomy that fit inside the product
A model or a robot only works in a product when it fits the power budget, the processor and the firmware around it. That is the part we build.
Edge AI on the device
Vision and sensor models trained, quantised and deployed on NPU-equipped microcontrollers and embedded Linux platforms, then tied into the firmware that feeds them data.
Edge AI
Robotics and autonomous systems
The embedded layer of robots, drones and autonomous machines: ROS 2 nodes, microcontrollers on micro-ROS, sensor fusion and motor control.
Robotics & ROS2Embedded Product Research and Development Consultancy
We take products from an early idea to mass production, or join your team at the stage where you need us. Electronics, firmware, mechanics, mobile apps and certification are handled together, so nothing is lost when the schematic meets the firmware or the prototype meets the factory.
Silicon selection, operating system, connectivity, security, power, mechanical constraints and certification all shape the final product. We settle them early, while changes are still cheap.
Our research and development offerings:
- Concept and feasibility
- Project analysis
- Hardware and circuit design
- Mechanical design
- Embedded software development
- PC and server script and software development
- Mobile application development
- Certification
- Prototyping
- Mass production
Who we work with
Product companies, start-ups and engineering teams, mostly in the UK and also abroad. We work on site when it helps and remotely the rest of the time.
Building something new.
You have the idea and the market but no embedded team yet. We take it from requirements to a product your factory can build.
Adding depth to your team.
Your team is strong but stretched, or new to BLE, Zephyr, Yocto, ROS 2 or safety-critical work. One of our engineers joins you, takes on the hard part and leaves the knowledge behind.
Improving a product in the field.
A fault in shipped units, a new standard or the next revision. We start from what exists and change only what needs to change.
Dothex is led by Akif Turker, an embedded systems engineer with 12 years of hands-on experience, from running an R&D department to safety-critical products. He works with a small team of engineers covering Edge AI, ROS 2, embedded Linux, mechanical design and mobile apps. You’ll talk to them directly.
Selected work
Client names stay private. The engineering doesn’t.
A low-power wearable medical device, from concept to pre-production
nRF52840 hardware and Zephyr firmware with BLE telemetry, secure provisioning and OTA updates, taken through bring-up, power optimisation and production preparation.

Consumer & Smart Home
Detection algorithms modelled in 2D and 3D, then written in C for the microcontroller, with IEC 61508 unit testing in LDRA and Thread mesh firmware on Silicon Labs EFR32.

View case studiesFrequently asked questions about embedded systems and product development
Can you take a product from idea to production?
Yes. We cover requirements and architecture, electronics, firmware, mechanical design and companion mobile apps, then certification support, production test and handover to your manufacturer.
1. Do you work on Edge AI and robotics?
Yes. We deploy vision and sensor models on NPU microcontrollers and embedded Linux, and build the embedded layer of ROS 2 robots, drones and autonomous machines.
1. Can you work on an existing product and codebase?
Yes. Much of our work is on products already in development or in the field: debugging, extending firmware or a new hardware revision. We read and measure what exists before proposing changes.
1. Do you work alongside our in-house team?
Often. We can take a defined piece of work, or one of our engineers can work inside your team using your tools, repositories and review process.
1. Which platforms do you work with?
STM32, NXP i.MX and i.MX RT, Nordic nRF, ESP32, Silicon Labs EFR32, Microchip and NPU-equipped microcontrollers, plus embedded Linux and ROS 2 systems. Platform choice follows the product’s power, cost and lifetime requirements.
Why use an experienced embedded systems consultancy?
12 years of hands-on experience means we understand that embedded engineering is rarely just a software or hardware problem. Performance, timing, power, memory, interfaces and reliability often have to be considered together. We can work on a new product, help solve a difficult technical problem or provide additional expertise to an existing engineering team.
Tell us what you’re building, or what’s going wrong
Send a few lines about the product and where it’s stuck. An engineer will read it an reply, not a sales team.
Share your project with us, and we’ll get back to you within one business day.
